The Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission (SCC&HC) is seeking a full time Program Coordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized, detail-oriented, self-starter who is passionate about the arts, cultural heritage, and history. Under the direction of the SCC&HC Manager, the Program Coordinator supports the daily operations of the Commission in planning, implementation and administration of Commission programs and services.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Program Coordinator will plan, manage, and execute all aspects of the County’s annual Somerset County Teen Arts Festival and annual heritage tourism events. Functions include:

Managing all aspects of event planning meeting deadlines and budget demands.
Coordinating with internal staff, vendors and others to establish needs for events.
Scheduling site visits and leads pre-event meetings to help staff make decisions about event design.
Managing set-up, tear-down, and clean-up operations.
Anticipating attendee needs and make preparations against potential risks.
Developing post-event reports on the effectiveness of each event.
Complying with legal, insurance, health, and safety regulations at all times.
Maintaining and building a comprehensive database of industry contacts, vendors, and venues.
Troubleshooting and handling any issues that arise on the event day.
The Program Coordinator will coordinate the county’s participation in the State Teen Arts Festival.

The Program Coordinator will assist the SCC&HC Manager in the administration of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Local Arts Program, the County History Partnership Program and the Division of Travel and Tourism Cooperative Marketing grants.

The Program Coordinator will update and develop promotional literature and resources for the public and will participate in and lend support to various additional County and Cultural & Heritage initiatives as needed to support the office.

The Program Coordinator:

Interacts extensively with the public, County Department and Division Heads, and other County personnel both in person and on the telephone. This includes preparing and delivering written and/or oral reports during meetings and events.
Serves as an ambassador for Cultural & Heritage to help foster a culture of inclusion for all members, volunteers, and guests.
In the Manager’s absence, oversees and assures the uninterrupted provision of agency programs and services.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the SCC&HC Manager and Director of the Office of Planning, Policy and Economic Development.


Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in the Arts, History or related field.
Ability to communicate at an exceptional level in person, over the telephone and through other forms of electronic communication.
Must exhibit strong independent working skills with the ability to engage in collaborative work with minimal direction; but understands when to ask for help or guidance when making critical choices
Maintains a professional and efficient office environment that projects a helpful, friendly atmosphere.
Ability to write basic and analytical correspondence and reports.
Ability to recognize, analyze and solve a variety of problems.
Ability to listen and diffuse inquires and complaints from the public.
Ability to quickly apply changes in priority or direction of daily duties.
Ability to exercise judgement and maintain highly confidential or sensitive information.
Proficient in office computer use, including Microsoft Office, email, and other computer applications.
Valid NJ driver’s license.
