Education Coordinator
Trenton, NJ
Artworks
Full Time
Posted March 10, 2021
Artworks, Trenton’s visual art center, believes in the universal power of art to transform individuals and communities. Our mission is “Connecting community, culture and creativity through the arts,” and in all of our programming and events we seek to elevate and connect Trenton residents of all cultures and communities. The Artworks Education Coordinator will be responsible for the oversight and day-to-day management of Artworks’ in-house youth and teen art classes and programming, our adult art workshops, as well as our art and afterschool programming in conjunction with partner organizations. The Education Coordinator will report to Artworks’ Executive Director. The position is part-time initially, with plans to transition to full-time later in 2021.

Duties and Responsibilities

Artworks is seeking an outgoing and engaging individual who loves introducing the magic of art to people of all ages, cultures and walks of life, but has a particular soft spot for children and young adults, and an interest in the important role of art in social justice and urban revitalization. The Artworks Education Coordinator understands the importance of art in education (STEAM not STEM!); and shares our enthusiasm for unlocking students’ creative gifts and building their sense of self and possibility through the joys and discipline of art making. This position is an opportunity for the right person to change lives, be a mentor your students will never forget, and become a part of Artworks – one of New Jersey’s most dynamic arts organizations – with our culture of dedication, creative problem solving, and inclusion. Because of the shift of Artworks education programming into the virtual realm in 2020, the Education Coordinator will have the opportunity to build a fresh in-person education program as restrictions ease, while retaining some of the benefits and reach of virtual classes. The Education Coordinator position will be part-time initially, 20 hours a week, with a plan to transition to full time later in 2021. The salary for this position is commensurate with experience, but on the scale of a small nonprofit organization, and will be in the range of $16,000 to $19,000 for 20 hours per week. Two weeks paid vacation upon transition to full time employment.
