The Newark School of the Arts, located in Newark, NJ is seeking 3 to 4 trainees for its Music and Movement Program. The ideal candidate loves to work with small children from 2.5 to 5 years old, has a cheery personality, is highly energetic, creative and has a lot of patience. Musical knowledge and a good singing voice are a must.

Bi-lingual in Spanish or Portuguese is a plus. Trainees will be paid during their training (July and August) and will receive regular professional development sessions and support while teaching starting fall of 2021.
The training will take place at Newark School of the Arts in July.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Newark School of the Arts is seeking musicians and music teachers interested in working with young children and their families in our Early childhood music and movement classes at Newark School of the Arts, and in selected early childhood centers.

Recognizing the impact of musical and artistic experiences in the lives of young children—especially those living in circumstances of social deprivation and financial distress—, the program aims to nurture development and growth of children, parents and the community.

The NSA provide paid professional development for musicians and artists interested in working with babies and toddlers through the Newark School of the Arts. The professional development will consist of:

• Two week intensive training in July
• Four to six in-person workshops, once a month, to be held over a period of six months;
• Observations of early childhood music specialists
• Practicum placement in an early childhood center with visits
• Online mentoring sessions to discuss issues and further the individual practicum experience
The topics of the professional development will include: children’s musical development, family and community engagement, curriculum and planning and special needs.

Participants will Abe paid during training and upon completion, be placed in an early childhood center.


Requirements

Musical knowledge and a good singing voice are a must.
Play guitar or ukulele would be great.
Bachelor's degree in music preferred.
Loving, nurturing and energetic personality.
