The Director of Development reports directly to the Executive Director (ED) and has the primary
responsibility of assisting the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees in securing the
annual fund and the sustainability funding necessary to realize the mission of the Newark
School of the Arts (NSA).

Duties and Responsibilities

Working with the ED to assure that the mission and strategic plan of the NSA is being
implemented.
Creating and implementing an approved annual - fundraising plan, including the Annual Fund
Campaign.
Writing letters, proposals, applications and reports to current and prospective government,
foundation, corporate and individual funders. Managing deadlines, procedures, guidelines, and
communications with funders.
Researching, initiating contacts, and maintaining communication with funding prospects.
Regularly attending meetings with the ED for the Board’s Development Committee on fund-
raising projects, providing information, and supporting the committee’s initiatives.
Assisting with the planning and coordination of fundraising, cultivation, and stewardship
events, including interfacing with the special events counsel for the annual gala.
Maintaining all aspects of donor software including donor data base records, stewardship, etc.
Being the liaison with the Board of Trustees, providing meeting materials, attending board
meetings and appropriate committee meetings.
Managing a part-time Development Assistant and any interns assisting with fundraising
operations.
Having a working knowledge of all aspects of the NSA including software, finances,
registrations.
Being a colleague and supporter of the NSA staff and faculty.
Staying current on philanthropic trends in the field.
All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree
3 years of experience in development/fundraising
Demonstrated passion and commitment to arts education.

Excellent communication skills both verbal and writing
Comfortable with technology.
Self-starter who works well with others
