The Graphic Designer will report to the Director of Marketing and Communications and work in tandem with the marketing, communications, and development departments to create innovative designs for ads, flyers, posters, banners, invitations, program books, and other deliverables reflective of the Princeton Symphony Orchestra brand and visual identity. This position is conducive to remote work.

Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Creation of innovative design concepts based on requirements and specifications outlined in design briefs.
• Present design drafts for review with explanation of design direction.
• Analyze feedback against design integrity to offer a balanced revision.
• Elevate organization’s visual brand and identity across programs and platforms.
• Stay on top of design trends and technology to keep skills fresh and aesthetics on point.
• Work with the Director of Marketing and Communications to bring designs to completion.
• Resize, format, and update designs as necessary for a variety of outlets.
• Sift through photos and online stock images for visuals which will best illustrate messaging.
• Track subscriptions/invoices for design needs such as online stock image purchases.
• Review stock image licensing rules with Director of Marketing and Communications.
• Coordinate preparation and upload of graphics, logos, and artists’ photos to website.
• Assist with archiving logos, photos, and graphic images.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS
• BA or BFA degree or related field, with 3-5 years professional graphic design experience.
• A strong portfolio showing experience in logo design, typography, graphics, photo effects, color, and layout.
• Superior aesthetic sense of proportions, visual space, color palettes, image and font selection.
• Proven experience with traditional print and digital mediums (social media, websites, email, etc.), and capable of adjusting design criteria accordingly.
• Proficient use of visual design technologies including the Adobe Creative Cloud and general technologies including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Sound judgement in making intelligent design decisions and recommendations to fully merge visual aesthetics with messaging.
• Organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to plan, prioritize, and handle multiple deadlines.
• Impeccable professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills to work with a variety of constituents from an array of lived experiences.
• High standards of integrity, credibility, and reliability.
• Excellent time management skills including commitment to attendance and punctuality.
• Works well independently and in a group setting, a true team player.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the organization.
• Strong communication skills.

DESIRABLE
• Photography/videography experience.
• Video editing.
• Copyright sensitivity.
• Event specific design.
• Knowledge of and passion for classical music/orchestral repertoire.

COMPENSATION This is a part-time, 20 hour/week position which may require occasional evening and weekend work in the case of a tight deadline or last-minute design need. Salary is commensurate with experience; benefits include health insurance and paid vacation.
