Carolyn Dorfman Dance, New Jersey’s premier modern dance company, in its 42nd season, is seeking a Grants writing /Development Consultant to assist in expanding our fundraising, outreach efforts and manage our new CRM database, Bloomerang.

This position reports to the Executive Director, will support the work of the marketing manager, confer with the fundraising committee of the board and help execute programs as appropriate.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for fund development activities that include grant writing and submitting timely and accurate reports to major public agencies (NJSCA), researching new funding sources and preparing proposals to private foundations and corporations. Additionally, responsible for helping us manage the new Bloomerang database, including conducting research on current and prospective individual donors. Help implement our annual major fundraiser/gala event and, time permitting, support small fundraising events identified by the fundraising
committee.

Requirements

Knowledge and Skills:
• Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive
proposals.
• Strong editing skills.
• Detail-oriented and experienced at being accountable for data accuracy.
• Experienced meeting deadlines.
• Knowledge of fundraising trends and information sources, especially in the NJ/NY area.
• Experience with writing successful proposals that are funded by public and institutional organizations.
• Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies.
• Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for individual prospect research.
• Strong contributor in team environments.

Qualifications:
• Knowledge of the performing arts environment preferred.
• A track record of grant attainment, development and execution of fundraising plans. Some success with individual fundraising and donor/community engagement.
• 2-5 years’ experience in development in the nonprofit (art) and/or philanthropic sectors.
• Familiarity with CRMs, very efficient in using spreadsheets.
• Must be able to work efficiently and effectively in a fast paced, creative environment and be able to manage multiple different assignments simultaneously.
• Proficient with MS Office software, PC and/or MAC

Time commitment: Contract from July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025. No more than 80 hours/month. More hours expected to be used at the beginning of the contract.

Location: Primarily Remote; periodic meetings in the office (Union, NJ), especially when a grant is due.
