The Box Office Manager plays a vital role in shaping the first and lasting impression of our organization. This
position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of ticketing operations, managing front-facing guest services, and leading a team that ensures every patron receives a welcoming and seamless experience. The Box Office Manager also plays a key role in internal and external communications, ensuring accurate and timely coordination across departments, rental clients, and touring productions. This role is central to maximizing ticket sales, supporting financial reconciliation, and maintaining accurate reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and tech-savvy leader with a strong background in ticketing systems, patron services, and staff supervision—someone who thrives on collaboration, values hospitality, and can maintain high standards of service while juggling multiple priorities in a fast-paced, live event environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Box Office Operations

Oversee all daily box office functions, including phone, online, and walk-up ticket sales

Manage and maintain ticketing software (e.g., VBO, AudienceView, Tessitura, Eventbrite), including event builds, pricing, holds, promotions, and reporting

Monitor and troubleshoot issues related to ticketing, scanning, and point-of-sale systems

Ensure accurate ticket inventory, seating configurations, and revenue tracking

Prepare and reconcile daily cash, credit card, and ticket sales reports

Customer Service & Sales

Deliver exceptional customer service and resolve escalated ticketing issues professionally and promptly

Train and supervise part-time box office staff and volunteers to ensure consistent guest support

Coordinate group sales, comps, and special ticket requests with internal departments and external clients

Implement strategies to improve sales performance and enhance the overall patron experience

Staff Management

Train, schedule, and supervise box office staff and volunteers

Develop and enforce box office policies, procedures, and service standards

Participate in performance evaluations and support professional development initiatives

Collaboration & Communication

Work closely with marketing, production, development, and finance departments to ensure timely and accurate event setup, promotions, and reporting

Serve as liaison for rental clients, producers, and tour managers regarding ticketing needs and policies

Provide regular sales updates and post-show reports to internal stakeholders

Ensure the consistency of information and customer-facing communication across platforms

Compliance & Reporting

Maintain accurate records for auditing and reporting purposes

Ensure compliance with ADA, PCI, and organizational policies

Oversee data integrity within the ticketing system and enforce privacy protocols and customer data protection standards

Requirements

3–5 years of experience in ticketing operations, guest services, or front-of-house management in a performing arts, entertainment, or nonprofit setting

Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience, including training and team development in a customer-facing environment

Proficiency with box office and CRM systems (experience with VBO or similar platform preferred)

Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments

Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting

A passion for arts access and community engagement

Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules

While performing the duties of this job, the Box Office Manager is regularly required to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, and to hear and understand spoken information. The role frequently involves sitting for extended periods and may require occasional stooping, kneeling, or crouching to access supplies or equipment. The position may also require lifting and moving objects up to 15 pounds, such as a BOCA ticket printer.

Visual requirements include the ability to read small print, work on a computer screen for extended periods, and navigate digital ticketing systems. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate but may occasionally be loud during live performances or peak event times.

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional performing arts environment, including box office, administrative offices, and lobby/public areas. The employee will interact regularly with patrons, staff, artists, volunteers, and clients. The position requires a flexible schedule, including regular evening, weekend, and holiday shifts aligned with the venue’s programming calendar.

Compensation & Benefits This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary range of $45,000 to $55,000, commensurate with experience. The benefits package may include access to health insurance, paid time off, and professional development opportunities.
