he duCret Center of Art is seeking a professional teaching artist to lead an introductory course in pastels. This introductory course will be for teaching Soft and Oil Pastels to adult students of art. This is an instructional position ideal for a working artist with a strong studio practice and a desire to share their knowledge in a supportive and creative community. Students of this pastel course will be beginners. The Pastel instructor will teach an Intro to Pastel course with an intermediate to advanced course in future sessions and is someone who is passionate about teaching foundational skills in both materials and core artistic principles.

Class duration: Classes are 8-10 weeks per session, ranging from 2 hours to 3 hours in duration.

Duties and Responsibilities
-Teach foundational art concepts (composition, value, color theory, etc.) as they apply to pastel-Be able to guide complete beginners through the introductory process
-Foster a supportive and engaging learning environment
-Develop a lesson plan to deliver thoughtful, technically sound lessons on basic pastel techniques and fundamental art concepts as related to Oil Pastels and Soft Pastels
-Equip class participants with the techniques and knowledge needed to further their art practice
Requirements
-Be knowledgeable in pastel-specific materials, surfaces, layering, color mixing, and mark-making-Have availability to teach an evening class during the week
-Active, professional art practice and a portfolio demonstrating strong pastel skills
-Prior teaching experience is a plus, but not required — a clear passion for teaching and mentoring is essential.
-Reliable, communicative, and collaborative
-Must submit a resume and portfolio (website or PDF accepted)
-An artist CV highlighting exhibitions, publications, residencies, projects or any relevant experience as a working artist/professional
-Can submit a portfolio of past student work if teaching experience is applicable.
-Weeknight and Weekend availability
