The Senior Director of Individual Giving (SDIG) oversees the individual giving program and is a pivotal partner to the Vice President for Development. The Senior Director of Individual Giving is responsible for developing strategies that provide comprehensive and integrated paths for acquiring and upgrading supporters at every gift level. Working closely and in tandem with the Vice President of Development, the SDIG oversees creating and executing an operational plan in order to meet individual giving fundraising goals. In addition to personally managing a portfolio of approximately 75-150 prospective donors, the SDIG manages, mentors, and helps train the philanthropy officers and annual fund manager who work to secure funding for the Symphony’s priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide the strategic vision and leadership necessary to build on the strengths of the growing individual giving program to broaden the constituent pool and increase the breadth and scope of support from our current and prospective donors.
• Move 25-50 new annual and/or planned gifts through the pipeline over the course of fiscal year
• Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of approximately 75 current and prospective donors giving between $10,000 and up
• Taking our planned giving program to the next level by creating a comprehensive planned giving program. We have a great planned giving pipeline ready for you to inspire the team to grow the endowment to $20+MM over the next 4 years.
• Oversee the Planned Giving Council. Including running the respective Councils meetings, setting agendas and finding new members.
• Help the Philanthropy Officers and Annual Fund Manager execute a detailed strategy and solicitation timeline for the Amadeus Circle, Laureate Society and Symphony Friends programs.
• Build strong personal relationships with your portfolio of donors through strategic phone calls, personalized email communications, formal presentations, and events
• Design and supervise systems that support good stewardship and membership benefits to support donor retention and acquire new donors
Management
• In tandem with the VP of Development, responsible for program management including goal setting, budget oversight and staffing
• In tandem with the VP of Development, responsible for design and delivery of the New Jersey Symphony’s next comprehensive campaign toward generating substantial philanthropic support for the Symphony priorities as determined by the strategic plan
• Supervision of direct reports, two Philanthropy Officers: Annual Fund Manager.
• Ensure program management, goal setting, progress-toward-goals, and staff recruitment/management are designed to meet overall expectations of the New Jersey Symphony
• Ensure travel/meeting, office support, training, and other resources available to colleagues as needed
• Ensure activity is reported regularly to the VP of Development, and shared appropriately at meetings
• Conduct office meetings (in person and/or virtual) on a consistent basis; provide guidance and support for teammates as required
• Provide support and structure for the department assessment process to ensure ongoing evaluation and continuous improvement of programs and objectives
• Remain current on best practices in individual giving techniques and strategies through independent study, participation in group seminars and workshops, as well as through one-on-one training


Requirements

A successful applicant will have the following experiences and education:

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Have 6+ years of experience working in a development office and able to work in a fast-paced, results-driven environment where the ability to multi-task is essential. Two-three years managing a development team preferred.
• Have advanced MS Office skills.
• Experience working with a CRM database such as Tessitura, Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, etc.
