George Street Playhouse is a fully professional, nationally-recognized producing Regional theatre located in New Brunswick, NJ. We’re seeking a skilled and detail-oriented part-time bookkeeper to join our team and support our financial operations. This is a part-time position, with a maximum of 24 hours per week, offering flexibility in scheduling. George Street Playhouse regular office hours are Monday through Friday 10am - 6pm. Weekly work hour schedules for this position are approved by the Director of Finance. Parking is provided.

Duties and Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Data Entry and Management: Enter financial transactions into accounting software, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Organize and maintain financial documents and records systematically.
- Financial Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries and bank reconciliations.
- Monitor cash flow and recommend internal controls, policies and procedures to maximize operational efficiency.
- Payroll Processing: Support payroll process in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with tax regulations and company policies.
- Financial Reporting: Support the Director of Finance generate and analyze financial reports (e.g., income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements) on a regular basis to provide insights into financial performance.
- Budget Monitoring: Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets and financial forecasts. Report on variances and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
- Assistance in Audit Preparation: Collaborate with external auditors and accountants during audits as directed by the Director of Finance.
- Adherence to Regulatory Standards: Assist the Director of Finance in the compliance of local, state, and federal financial regulations and standards.
- Prepare monthly closing and analyze bank and other accounts timely.

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3 years of previous work experience as a bookkeeper or in a similar role, with a strong understanding of accounting principles and practices in a non-profit organization.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks accounting software and MS Excel; familiarity with bill.com, primepoint and other financial tools is a plus.
- Knowledge of theatre operations, production, marketing and fundraising is a plus.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial record-keeping.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate within a team environment.
- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations regarding financial transactions and reporting.
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant field is preferred but not mandatory. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
