The Director of Development is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fundraising to support Morris Arts’ mission and programs. They lead fundraising events including Great Conversations, the Commercial Real Estate Breakfast and the Giralda Music & Arts Festival. The position works closely with the Executive Director, the Morris Arts Board and the Fund Development Team. The Director of Development supervises and works hand in hand with the more internally focused Development Associate, who is responsible for writing grants as well as rolling out the annual appeal and supporting special events. This is a hands-on role in both creating and executing development strategies.
This is an externally focused, full- time position with occasional nights, weekends & attendance at events required.

Duties and Responsibilities

-Lead and manage major fundraising events including Great Conversations, the Commercial Real Estate Breakfast and the Giralda Music & Arts Festival.
-Research and identify new funding sources and initiate requests.
-Maintain existing funding sources through timely solicitations and ongoing stewardship/recognition with an eye to expanding support and involvement.
-Outreach to the community on a regular basis to educate and encourage involvement and financial support of the organization.
-Develop sponsorship packages and solicit corporate and individual funders to support Morris Arts events and programs.
-Lead an individual donor major gifts program, identifying prospects and initiating requests with the support of the Fund Development Committee.
-Lead Fund Development Committee; liaise with Trustee Leadership Committee and New Leaders Board on potential new board members; work closely with Board to solicit opportunities with corporations, local corporations and individuals.
-Provide ongoing reports to the Executive Director and the Fund Development Committee on fundraising income, goals and initiatives consistent with Morris Arts’ short and long-term financial objectives.
-Manage Development Associate in grant-seeking activities, the annual appeal campaign, and management of the fundraising database to assure accurate documentation, acknowledgement of donations, and activities to encourage continued engagement and support.
-Work with Executive and Finance Directors to develop the organizational budget and participate in organizational planning.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work-experience required.

Experience: Five or more years’ experience in non-profit fundraising with a demonstrated ability to successfully raise funds, knowledge of Morris area and/or larger New Jersey corporate and non-profit community a plus.

Skills:

Excellent interpersonal, oral, and writing skills.
Creative thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability to cultivate. relationships between funder objectives and Morris Arts’ mission and programs.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and fundraising software (we use DonorPerfect).
A strong work ethic and ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
High energy level, flexibility, sense of humor, and willingness to pitch in as needed.
Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team.



Salary range is $80-86K for approximately 40 (flexible) hours per week. Position is exempt and eligible for medical benefits. Morris Arts offers a flexible schedule, a beautiful work environment in Morristown, and generous paid time off (including the two weeks between the holidays at the end of December).
