Are you ready to be the vital force behind the scenes of McCarter's exciting artistic endeavors? As the Artistic and Casting Assistant, you'll be at the heart of our creative process, supporting the work of the Associate Artistic Director (AAD) and Director of Artistic Initiatives (DAI). You'll help project manage the artistic department’s role in the day-to-day logistics of producing our Theater Series, Developmental Projects/Commissions, and occasional Presented Programming Events, and work in close partnership to carry out in-house casting processes for McCarter. Duties and Responsibilities
• Track and manage casting processes under the guidance of the Associate Artistic Director. This includes communication with casting directors, actors' agents, and representatives; acting as a liaison with outside casting professionals; and coordinating and/or attending casting sessions, as needed.• Assist in creating artistic project timelines, in coordination with production and general management, and ensure deadlines are met.
• Maintain ArtsVision, a cloud-based performing arts management software, and other theater/produced series databases/documents.
• Coordinate inter-departmental communication for various events and performances, including though not limited to dress rehearsals, development and other special events, previews, and opening/special performances.
• As requested by the AAD or DAI, represent the artistic department at production meetings, technical rehearsals, and preview performances.
• Work closely with the DAI to assist in budget creation, maintenance, and forecasting for the Artistic Department.
• Participate in season planning and stay informed about plays in development and those scheduled for production.
• Communicate with, and coordinate the handoff to, production, general management, and finance regarding offers, hiring, travel/accommodation, and space needs for theatre series productions and for developmental workshops.
• Act as a liaison between artists and the finance office to gather needed paperwork or to channel payment-related inquiries.
• Represent the artistic department, when requested, in conversations about shared projects with artistic, production, development, and marketing teams.
Remain up to date on the complete spectrum of McCarter's programming, events, partnerships, and activities.
• Adhere to safe working practices while embodying McCarter safety and code of conduct policies.
• Participate in the work to make McCarter an anti-racist theater. Actively seek ways to improve our work practices to make the Artistic department more equitable and inclusive, while upholding and exhibiting our stated values of “justice and joy, beauty and belonging.”
LOCATION & SCHEDULE: This is an in-person position reporting to our administrative offices at 91 University Place in Princeton, NJ. Occasional remote work may be possible for this role, though is not guaranteed and is subject to supervisor approval. In addition to regular business hours Monday through Friday, Artistic staff should be available for evening and weekend hours, as needed, which will be scheduled as far in advance as possible.
Requirements
Qualifications:The ideal candidate will
• exude a passion for theatre and the performing arts, displaying a keen interest in uplifting artists from various disciplines worldwide. They should also demonstrate curiosity towards emerging artists and the artistic development process;
• possess a solid understanding of theatrical and event production processes, coupled with a general awareness of the current landscape of the live performing arts industry;
• demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, planning, project management, time management, and people skills, as well as the ability to work independently and efficiently;
• have familiarity with Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) and Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC);
• exhibit strong collaboration skills and a proactive approach to contributing creative ideas within a group dynamic;
• feel at ease coordinating and communicating with artists and industry professionals;
• bring experience in scheduling, project coordination, as well as meeting and relationship management;
• have proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and video conferencing software (especially Zoom);
• have a critical consciousness and interest in the values and practices that can help build and sustain an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace;
• exhibit an ability to collaborate with diverse needs, personalities, and work styles with optimism and a solution discovery mindset.
Individuals are strongly encouraged but not currently required to be up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 2+ years of professional or educational entertainment-related work experience in casting, producing, production, or arts-related management.
• Proximity to or willingness to relocate close to McCarter Theatre Center
Work Environment:

• In-person work will primarily be completed in a shared office space in our administrative office located at 91 University Pl, Princeton, NJ.
• This position is required to be on site and in attendance at various performances and events. These will be communicated and scheduled in advance.
• Occasional physical work such as moving boxes approximately 20 lbs., and stacking and moving chairs and tables for meetings, events, etc.
• Frequent trip to NYC for work events (readings, meetings, etc.) and occasional out-of-town travel, with approved costs covered by McCarter.
• Employees may be asked to use a personal cell phone in order to access authenticator apps and related software necessary for work credentials/multi-factor authentication (MFA). Applicants should be comfortable using their personal devices for these purposes as part of their job responsibilities, as workarounds cannot be guaranteed in order to access certain platforms.

PAY: $49,000 - $53,000
