Peters Valley School of Craft is seeking an experienced Development Director to help lead a development campaign focused on individual donors. Initially the fundraising will focus on donations for general operating funds but will expand within 12-24 months to include a sizeable capital campaign. This position* reports to the Executive Director and will include responsibility for the full spectrum of fundraising activities.

Peters Valley is a mission-driven non-profit fine craft school, situated on a uniquely beautiful campus located in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in northwestern New Jersey. We are looking for a candidate that is passionate about the arts and ready to join our energized, inspired, and collaborative team.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Executive Director and Board Development Committee to set goals and create a strategy focused on cultivating individual donors and lead the execution of that strategy to reach mutually agreed upon goals for general operating gifts, with appropriate monthly or quarterly benchmarks.

• Manage a current portfolio of small and large donors.

• Oversee a current portfolio of foundation, state and federal grants and a part-time freelance grant writer, with responsibility for ensuring that all grant application and reporting deadlines are met.

• Establish and manage a diverse and dynamic development outreach program including direct mail, email, social media, phone, in-person cultivation, and special events.

• Report monthly to the Development Committee of the Board on progress versus established benchmarks and goals.

• Peters Valley is planning an ambitious capital campaign to raise funds for a second campus to begin in late 2025 or early 2026. The Development Director will work closely with the Executive Director, Board Development Committee and consultants on the development and execution of the capital campaign. A successful general operating campaign is a prerequisite for the subsequent capital campaign.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelors degree from an accredited college; knowledge of and interest in fine craft preferred
• 5+ years development experience including successful donor program management; cultivation of large donors, management of development and capital campaigns and grants preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

Peters Valley School of Craft enriches lives through the learning, appreciation and practice of fine craft. In a unique partnership with the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, we offer immersion learning opportunities, featuring over 120 courses in nine studio disciplines: ceramics, blacksmithing, fibers, weaving, fine metals, photography, woodworking, special topics (glass, printmaking etc.) as well as youth art programs. We provide artist residencies, community outreach programs, special events, and exhibition galleries showcasing fine craft.
