Description: Teaching Artists are responsible for designing, developing, and delivering engaging theatre arts instruction to fulfill the teaching areas of Algonquin Arts' robust education program. They use their artistic expertise to guide students in exploring various aspects of theatre, including acting, singing, dancing, directing, stagecraft, playwriting, and other relevant topics. Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities: Teaching Artists agree to participate in programs at the Algonquin Arts Theatre that provide arts education both in the theatre building and throughout Monmouth and Ocean County, NJ. These programs may occur during school and after school. The Teaching Artist is understood to be a part-time (contracted) employee and may not be guaranteed a fixed number of instructional units. All teaching artists are required to prepare outlines and individual lesson plans for each class, workshop, or residency in which they are hired to work. Many residencies require collaborative planning with classroom teachers. Certain instructional units and lessons may be required to be created based on New Jersey State Standards.Requirements
Qualifications:Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts (or significant relevant experience)
Academic and/or practical experience in an art discipline
Two years minimum teaching artist experience with various age groups and educational settings
Understanding of and experience with creative and arts-based pedagogical methods for the teaching of arts disciplines (i.e. inquiry-based learning, arts integrated studies, skills-based instruction and aesthetic education, etc.)
Strong oral and written communication skills
Commitment to serving children (K-12)
Classroom management skills
Knowledge of and experience with NJ Student Learning Standards, National Core Arts Standards and/or experience with social emotional learning framework(s)
Must successfully pass New Jersey Department of Education (Office of Student Protection) background check
How To Apply
Teaching artist for Performing Arts Academy is between $40-$45 per hour. Master classes and Lifelong Learning seminars are negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
