POSITION OVERVIEW

Two River Theater seeks a strategic, creative, and data-driven Director of Marketing & Audience Engagement to lead the organization’s marketing, branding, and audience engagement efforts. This role oversees Marketing, Box Office, Front of House, and Concessions, and plays a pivotal role in advancing Two River’s mission to create great American theater through powerful storytelling, community connection, and artistic innovation.

The Director of Marketing & Audience Engagement is responsible for all programmatic and institutional marketing, branding, creative services, ticket services, market research/audience data analysis, revenue forecasting, communications and audience engagement. Reporting to the Managing Director, they play an instrumental role in strategic planning

Duties and Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Strategic Leadership and Marketing
Develop and inspire Marketing, Box Office and Front of House (including concessions) teams, and multiple specialized contractors, to increase audience growth, and develop and execute revenue strategies and institutional positioning;
Develop and oversee the Department’s planning/budgeting process, ensuring the effective and efficient use of resources in the short- and long-term views; develop data-driven revenue projections and re-forecasting for all ticketed programs;
Establish, implement, and evaluate short- and long-range departmental objectives, policies, and operating procedures to ensure goals are met or exceeded;
Advance the visibility of the organization’s programming and services;
Advise colleagues on programming choices based on knowledge of target markets, competitive offerings, emerging social issues, and internal competencies;
Foster a collaborative, creative, and data-informed culture; and
Perform all work in a manner that is consistent with Two River’s core values, including our commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA), and contribute to the goal of creating a more equitable, diverse and inclusive organization by participating in various staff and organizational ED&I initiatives.
Programming and Institutional Campaign Strategies & Tactics:
Develop annual marketing plans in collaboration with Artistic, Education, and Development Departments;
With internal teams and external partners, conceive, develop, and implement data-driven, innovative campaigns (direct marketing, advertising, communications, promotions, website, list buys, media buys, print, digital, etc.), that may be multi-channel, to drive awareness and attendance;
Oversee audience segmentation and targeting strategy to ensure the institution is using its resources effectively to engage priority segments; and
Collaborate with Events on the creation and execution of Marketing events such as Inside Two River.
Revenue Generation & Impact:


Use audience research and data analytics to inform strategy and optimize campaigns;
Monitor sales and engagement metrics, adjusting tactics in real time;
Grow ticket revenue and attendance by implementing effective pricing strategies including successful implementation of both dynamic pricing and strategic discounting;
Expand and diversify audiences for Artistic, Education and Development initiatives;
Pipeline new audiences and deepen engagement with existing ones;
Partner with the Development team to align marketing and fundraising strategies, ensuring that communications inspire philanthropic investment;
Partner with the Education team to promote education programs and expand young audiences, their families, and teachers to our productions and education initiatives;
Develop new revenue streams and expand existing revenue streams such as tourism, concessions and bar sales, and playbill advertising;
Measure and report on the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, providing insights to Leadership; and
Stay abreast of emerging marketing trends and technologies in the arts and cultural sector .

Brand Awareness:

Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including media partners and community organizations who can help Two River’s reach and engage target audiences;
Articulate and implement the institution’s visual aesthetic, brand and brand storytelling strategies designed bolster Two River’s reputation as one of the nation’s most celebrated regional theaters; and
Build brand awareness and ensure consistency of Two River’s voice across all channels and touchpoints.

Competencies & Skills



Leadership & Strategy

Significant experience in a senior marketing leadership role.
Proven ability to create and execute campaigns that generate sales, maximize ROI, and expand audiences.
Expertise in brand strategy and audience development.
Ability to balance creative vision with data-driven decision-making.


Marketing & Technical Expertise

Expertise in digital marketing, budgeting, and forecasting.
Proficiency in marketing technologies, CRM systems, and digital marketing platforms.
Understanding of consumer buying behavior and market dynamics.
Communication & Collaboration

Outstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Experience managing staff and vendors.
A creative, curious, and collaborative work style.


Operational Flexibility

Ability to work on select weekday evenings and weekends.


Preferred Skills

Experience in a creative industry (e.g., arts, entertainment, media).
Strong understanding of the nonprofit regional theater landscape.
Familiarity with Tessitura (preferred CRM system).

Annual Compensation: $100,000-$105,000.
