George Street Playhouse, a professional, producing theatre company 40 minutes from Manhattan, seeks an experienced and artist-focused Assistant Production Manager to join our team for our 22/23 season at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center. The Assistant Production Manager is an integral member of the Production Team, this position reports to the Production Manager, works closely with the General Manager, and plays a key role in implementing the vision of the Artistic Director. This position plays a key role in executing the Artistic Director’s vision to provide a welcoming and world-class home in which artists are free to do their best work.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties:
- Frequently operate a computer and other office equipment such as printers, copy machines and calculators.
- Provide assistance with processing department payroll and budget tracking via handwritten timesheets, electronic and paper receipts, and the use of Google Sheets
- Develop electronic production calendars and production related paperwork
- Communicate and exchange information with designers, production departments, and stage managers
- Support stage management teams with rehearsal prep, rehearsal notes, and transporting materials from the rehearsal room to the stage
- Work closely with the education department and their production needs, and assist with a newly developing Fellowship program
Non Essential Job Duties / Other Duties:
- Experience working in a union employment environment and familiarity with IATSE, USA and AEA agreements
- Occasionally ascend/descend a ladder to assist production departments as needed
- May be asked to drive to off-site vendors to pick up supplies
Requirements
Requirements:
- Basic knowledge of Production Management duties, technical theater and production scheduling
- Good organizational skills and the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects at once
- “Can-do” team player who can make thoughtful decisions quickly and demonstrates grace under pressure
- Strong computer skills especially proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
- Experienced in theatrical production
- Basic knowledge of theatrical CAD base programs such as Vectorworks and Autocad
- The ability to understand scale and read scenic plans, lighting and sound plots
- A valid driver’s license and ability to drive vans and small tucks
- Routinely move 25-50 lbs. either independently or with assistance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in technical theater, or related field
- 1-2 years of experience working in theatrical production
Working Conditions:
- In addition to regular office hours, evening, weekend, and early morning hours will be required. The Assistant Production Manager will be asked to work extended hours to meet deadlines, when necessary.
- Assistant Production manager will be asked to work in an office setting, as well make visits to an off-site Scene Shop warehouse with exposure to loud noises and debris such as sawdust, paint, and metal.
- Assistant Production Manager is expected to attend all tech rehearsals, previews, and production meetings.
COVID-19 vaccination, including all eligible boosters, is a condition of employment. COVID policies are updated regularly to reflect the current local and national health recommendations.
George Street Playhouse currently requires all employees to wear respirator style masks (N95, KN95, KF94). Members of the Production Group will also test per the current COVID policy at company’s expense.
The Opportunity:
George Street Playhouse offers an annual starting salary of $45,000 with a benefits package that includes health and dental insurance with annual allowance for out of pocket medical expenses, paid holidays, vacation time, sick leave, paid parking near the theater and complimentary tickets to George Street Playhouse productions.
