Morris Arts, the designated Arts Council of Record for Morris County, seeks a visionary, execution-oriented Executive Director to lead its next era of growth and community impact.

Building on a 50+ year legacy in Arts in Education and an expanding Arts in Wellness platform , alongside innovative initiatives like THE AMP opening in March of 2026 in Dover, NJ

This leader will serve as chief strategist, fundraiser, and public ambassador, working closely with the Board to scale revenue, strengthen partnerships, and elevate Morris Arts as a regional and national model for how the arts advance education, wellness, and community vitality.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Vision
• Lead the development and execution of a multi-year strategic plan focused on growth, relevance, and impact
• Position Morris Arts as a thought leader at the intersection of arts, wellness, education, and community development
• Identify and launch scalable initiatives that respond to evolving community needs

Fundraising & Revenue Growth
• Personally lead major gift cultivation, corporate partnerships, and institutional fundraising
• Expand earned revenue opportunities tied to programs, space, and services
• Strengthen relationships with county, state, and regional funding agencies
• Inspire board members to be active partners in fundraising and stewardship
This role requires a leader who enjoys fundraising and sees it as relationship-building, not obligation.

External Relations & Community Impact
• Serve as the primary public face of Morris Arts across Morris County and beyond
• Build deep partnerships with:
o School districts and educators
o Healthcare / Insurance and mental health institutions
o Municipal and county leaders
o Corporate and philanthropic stakeholders
• Represent Morris Arts at public events, convenings, and advocacy efforts

Organizational & Financial Management
• Oversee financial health, budgeting, forecasting, and risk management
• Ensure strong internal systems, policies, and compliance
• Build staff capacity through thoughtful structure, coaching, and accountability
• Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement

Board Partnership & Governance
• Partner closely with the Board of Trustees to align strategy, governance, and fundraising
• Provide clear, data-informed reporting and recommendations
• Support board development, engagement, and leadership succession
• Maintain appropriate boundaries between governance and management

Requirements

Required Experience & Capabilities
• Senior leadership experience in a nonprofit, cultural, education, or mission-driven organization
• Demonstrated success in fundraising and revenue growth
• Experience managing budgets, teams, and complex stakeholder environments
• Strong public presence with the ability to communicate mission and impact clearly
• Comfort navigating public funding, government relationships, and community politics

Highly Valued (but not all required)
• Experience in arts, education, public health, or community development
• Experience scaling an organization or launching major new initiatives
• Familiarity with New Jersey, the NYC metro region, or similar county-based ecosystems
• Comfort using data, research, and storytelling to demonstrate impact
